Burying the hatchet

Long and hard I have fought for you,
Through nights’ obscure I have strived,
To land upon these shore where you,
Slept calmly through the night.

When the light broke next morning, you looked at me and screamed,
You asked me how long I’ve been standing there,
I replied, “Four years”.
You picked yourself up, dusted the remains of me on to the floor and walked,
You didn’t stop walking till you reached the next century,
There you were rid of me.
There you stayed.

I’ve longed for companionship, for love and all,
I’ve longed to belong, to hold, and to have.
I’ve longed to be human, to breathe and to feel,
But you showed me that it wasn’t meant for me.
You watched me break at the seams and laughed.
You pushed me down and lit the spark.
I was in pain- not from the flames,
The flames that engulfed my body,
But from the companionship you offered me,
From the love you so surely had for me,
From the emotions attached to setting me ablaze…
You’re right, these emotions aren’t for me.
